CLAY PLAY is a 60-minute sensory based Caretaker & Me session that runs for six weeks. This spring session is designed for toddlers ages 3-5 and encourages creative and active engagement between child, caretaker, and the materials at hand. Each week will present art and activities inspired by a different children's story.
Each week provides -
- a children's book reading that will guide the session.
- a sensory based activity (sensory bins, collage, painting with unconventional materials, printmaking, etc.)
- an artwork that is completed and taken home at the end of the session.
- exposure and handling of different types of clay (air dry, paper clay, homemade dough, stoneware, etc.)
- time to work on a long term project that you and your child will complete by the end of the six weeks (some examples have been a vase, a mirror frame, a mug and plate set).
The course maxes out at four children to ensure an enjoyable experience for all participants. Children must be accompanied by one adult, but it does not need to be the same adult every week. It is recommended that only one adult per child be present at each session.
There is no makeup for a missed session. A digital download will be made for you and your child and sent out at the end of the six weeks that reviews all activities, materials, and instructions on how to create each sensory bin. If your child misses a class, the art activity can be set aside and picked up for your child to complete at home. Should a session need to be cancelled due to weather, a makeup date will be added on to the end of the four weeks.
