About the event
There are three main handbuilding techniques in ceramics - pinching, coiling, and slab building. These Intro to Handbuilding workshops are recommended for those who'd like to take advantage of working independently during drop-ins or purchasing a studio membership. It is recommended to pair this workshop with other Intro to Handbuilding workshops to build the skills and knowledge necessary to work independently with clay.
This Introduction to Handbuiling workshop focuses on slab/slab building and the possibilities that come with this technique. In this workshop, participants will learn how to handle slabs at various stages of dryness along with how to use slabs to build three-dimensionally. Participants will also learn how to use both slump and hump molds. If time allows, this workshop will also offer opportunities for surface design and adding embellishments. Cost includes all materials, glazing, and firing.
This workshop is best suited for ages 13+ and for those seriously interested in building their skills in working with clay. We ask that you please bring your own towel to class to use for wiping hands and any personal materials/attire. Please take note that no outside food is allowed in the studio. Beverages with a lid are welcome.
