Clay Explorers
Grades K-2 : Explore what you can create together with clay!
Service Description
In this introductory clay course, the caretaker and child will learn basic hand building techniques through exploration and experimentation. This session's theme will be "In the Kitchen" and will take inspiration from cooking and enjoying our favorite foods together. Each week's class will consist of a different project with new skills/techniques. Participants can expect to learn how to work with slabs, coils, and pinch pots. Both decorative and functional ceramic work will be created consisting of, but not limited to, snack plates, donut sculptures, pinch pot mugs, pizza slices, and more. *Please note that there is no wheel use in this class.* This class is designed for age levels K-2nd grade and requires a caretaker to be present and active in the art making processes with the child. We ask that participants arrive 2-3 minutes early so that class can begin promptly at 430pm. There will be one makeup available for a missed class which will occur on 1/24. The project for this makeup day will be determined near the end of the 6 week session. ***Please note that this class requires a minimum of 2 participants to run. If less than 2 children are registered, refunds will be issued and the class will be rescheduled.*** Students can expect to return to glaze any remaining unfired pieces 3 weeks after the class has finished. Students also have the option of choosing one color for each piece and having their works glazed by a River Ceramics staff member. Pieces glazed by River Ceramics will require 4 weeks before ready for pickup. All course materials, firing, and glazing appointments are included in the cost of the course. Participants are granted access to the studio during all posted open studio hours to come in and work independently on any current projects. Participants may not begin new or separate projects outside of class time. Please note that participants should be able to work confidently and independently while following all basic studio rules as a Clay Explorers instructor will not be available outside of class. Coming in to work on pieces outside of class time is up to a participant's discretion and is not required. *Please email hello@riverceramicsstudio.com to alert the studio so work can be pulled and ready for the student upon arrival.* Class dates are 12/6, 12/13, 12/20, 1/3, 1/10, 1/17. Makeup class due to weather or illness 1/24.
