Nature Plates/Platters

Service Description

Spring (and soon Summer) is upon us! This workshop is a great way to connect with nature, yourself, and even your child(ren) if you'd like to create together! Learn how to successfully press textured, natural elements into your clay as well as how to work with flat slabs. These plates will be more organic with hand-curved edges designed just how you like. Demonstrations and instructions will be provided throughout. We encourage participants to bring their own selections from nature - leaves, small wildflowers, grasses, and weeds (yes weeds!) print very successfully in clay. Bulky flowers with a lot of volume (such as roses or other thick blooms) are difficult to press, but the petals can be plucked and pressed in! The studio will also supply a variety of field flowers and greens freshly picked for the workshop. This workshop designed for all experience levels. Adult assistance required for ages 8 and under. After the workshop your piece will be fired and glazed to one color of your choice. An email will be sent once your piece is out of the kiln and ready for pick up. Looking for to make your piece more personalized? Ask your instructor about booking a glazing appointment to come in and glaze yourself. Please bring a towel to your workshop to wipe hands and any accessories/apparel. Smocks are available for use. Food is not permitted in the studio, however drinks with a closed lid are welcome. Please know that River Ceramics takes every precaution possible to protect the safety and stability of your work once your workshop is complete. Even still, clay and pottery can be unpredictable throughout the firing and glazing stages. Refunds can not be given for pieces that warp, crack, or come out of a firing with an unexpected result.
