Clay Camp: Morning Hand Building
Join us any day(s) from 930-1130. A new hand building project each day!
Service Description
Join us this summer at River Ceramics and expand your imagination and creativity through pottery and ceramics. Make both fun and functional forms and sculptures in our morning hand building sessions. Our Clay Camp morning session is meant to teach foundational skills and techniques necessary to sculpting and constructing with clay. Participants will learn different skills each day. Projects are meant to be open ended in terms of design and decoration allowing participants to create and customize their ceramic work to their personal taste and preferences. Please see the list of projects below. We can't wait to see you at the table! 7/14 - slab boxes with handles 7/15 - joined pinch pot creatures 7/16 - lanterns/luminaries 7/17 - coil bowls (not water tight) 7/18 - matching mug and plate set 7/21 - joined pinch pot creatures 7/22 - coil pots (not water tight) 7/23 - ceramic masks 7/24 - matching mug and plate set 7/25 - slab vessels For those who choose to also sign up for the Afternoon Wheel Session, please pack a nut-free lunch. There will be a 30 minute break between the morning and afternoon sessions where students may sit inside and enjoy their lunch. Please bring a water bottle to keep on hand throughout the duration of your session. Dress for the mess - our clay studio is messy! Be ready to leave with some clay dust on your clothes and shoes. Nails should be trimmed (especially for afternoon sessions) and hair should be tied back. Please be aware that the ceramic studio provides a variety of tools and materials for creating. Instructions will provide tools that are most appropriate for each project - some of these tools may be sharp and can hurt hands if not used appropriately. We trust that students in our sessions are listening to and following instructions as provided. Glazing - students will choose a single color for each of their projects before leaving from that day's session and our studio staff will take care of glazing their work. Pieces will be ready for pick up the first week of September. Should a student wish to glaze their work(s) themselves, they can plan to book a glazing appointment four weeks after our River Clay Camp weeks have ended (late August). Please note that glazing appointments are $10 per hour.
